First Draft of Reseach Paper

This week's blog is about the first rough draft of my research paper on gambling. It is going very well and I am confident about how the paper will turn out. I think that I have gotten off to a good start on writing the first five pages. There are several things that are going well concerning my paper. I think that I have found sources that support the points that I am making in my paper. Many of my sources are going to be used in the body paragraphs of my paper. The research paper outline that I wrote about gambling was a big help in starting my paper. It gave me a good outline on what my paper was going to look like. I think that I have a strong introduction that introduces my topic well. I have written a few of the body paragraphs for the paper that are about the pros and cons of gambling. These body paragraphs will help the audience of my paper understand the concepts that I am presenting in my paper. I have not written a conclusion for my paper yet because I have not finished the body paragraphs. I also need to update my annotated bibliography because I have found several more sources. I have been reading all of these sources so that I can include them in my paper. I am also working on the rest of my body paragraphs. I plan on working on this paper this weekend. I am going to go through my sources and figuring out where they belong in my paper. I am going to spend a great deal of time on this paper. I need to revise my paper and also my annotated bibliography. I have learned many things in the process of writing this paper.

Narrowed topic, audience, thesis statement, organization

The first part of this blog is about the topic of my research paper. I have been narrowing my topic the last couple of weeks. I am researching gambling. More specifically I am researching the pros and cons of gambling. I think that this topic is narrow enough for my research paper. I want to focus on the positive and negative effects that come from gambling. I have been researching gambling and in many of the sources that I have come across, these sources discuss the pros and cons of having gambling and casinos in certain communities. My audience for this paper would be people that are interested in finding out more information about gambling. Many people will be able to relate to this topic because it is a controversial topic that many people are concerned about. The audience will be interested in finding out the positive and negative effects that come from gambling and casinos. The next part of this blog is going to be about my tentative thesis statement for my research paper on gambling. I have not thought too much about what my thesis statement will be, but I know that I want to include something about the positive and negative effects of gambling on communities. My thesis statement would start out by saying that gambling is a controversial topic that has many positive and negative effects on communities. I am working on making a better, stronger thesis statement for my paper. As for the organization of my paper, I briefly discussed this in my last blog two weeks ago. I will have a strong introduction paragraph introducing my topic followed by several body paragraphs that support my thesis statement. I would then end my paper with a conclusion that summarizes the points made in the paper. I am working on writing this paper.

Organizaton

This week's blog is about the organization patter that the research paper will follow. I have not thought much about how my paper will be organized, but it would be a good idea to come up with an outline that lays out the organization of the paper. I will follow the format of having a introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. The body paragraphs will be supported by evidence that I have found in my sources that I have found on the topic. I would start out with an introduction paragraph that introduces the topic of gambling. I will start out with a broad introduction that narrows it down to the topic of my paper which includes the pros and cons of gambling. This introduction paragraph will get my audiences attention and will also show why they should care about my topic of gambling. I have been doing research on the pros and cons and I would organize my paper to include the two. Many sources also have focused on the psychology of gambling and the ethics of gambling. I would discuss in detail the positive effects that gambling has on people and communities and also the negative effects that gambling and casinos will have on the people and communities. The pros and cons of gambling will be the main part of the body paragraphs in the paper. I have found many articles that look at the topic of gambling and what the effects of a casino have on the people in the community. I will end the paper with a strong conclusion. I am planning on this paper being an informative paper that will display the pros and cons of gambling to my audience. I am continuing to research the subject and hope to get some work done over spring break on my research paper.

I would like to start this week's blog about narrowing down my topic. Gambling is a very broad topic. My topic is gambling, and I am thinking of ways to narrow it. There have been articles in the newspaper recently about the pros and cons of gambling and casinos. I have been researching the topic for the last few weeks and I have found a lot of information about the topic. I found some articles that gave two different points of view from two attorneys on gambling. Most of these articles address points about gambling. There are articles that are against gambling and there are also articles that have evidence to support gambling. I have used the library's website to search for articles on ebscohost and I have found some articles that have researched the effects that gambling had on communities. I have been looking for more articles for my research paper and the rhetorical analysis. I have been looking through my sources to pick the two sources that I would like to do my rhetorical analysis. The areas that I am going to include in my rhetorical analysis are going to be audience, purpose, research methods, and author credibility. The audience of my paper would be my classmates and also people who are interested in learning more about the topic of gambling. This would include many people including gamblers, people opposed to gambling, and people who have problems with gambling. The audience would include people who enjoy gambling and also enjoy reading about the pros and cons of gambling. Many of the articles in the Journal Gazette that I have read on the topic usually oppose gambling in the Fort Wayne area. These articles are interesting to read. I am going to continue my research on my topic and also begin to write the paper.

After writing the three i-search papers, I chose the topic of gambling. I chose this topic because I think that it is an interesting and controversial topic in many places. There are pros and cons to having casinos in cities.Casinos create jobs and also creates additional revenue for the cities and states that allow casinos. Some people oppose to having casino in their cities because they believe that gambling will lead to an increase in crime. There are many different forms of gambling. There is gambling that takes place on the internet. There is a casino in Anderson, Indiana. The name of this casino is Hoosier Park. Hoosier Park casino has a race track. They call a casino with a race track a racino. In Fort Wayne, there is an off-track betting parlor that is on Washington Center. When I think of the topic of gambling I think of the world series of poker. Texas hold em' is the type of poker that is played. The world series of poker is televised on ESPN. The winner of the 2008 world series of poker won over nine million dollars. There was a bill that was purposed to move 500 slot machines to Fort Wayne. The slot machines would include games such as black jack and roulette without live dealers. Mayor Tom Henry has stated that he is open to the idea of Fort Wayne having a casino. This bill died Thursday after failing to receive a hearing by a key legislative deadline. The mayor said that it wouldn't be a problem if the issue had to wait until next year. There was an article written about the bill in the journal gazette in this morning's paper. There are currently twelve casinos in Indiana. I found several articles about the pros and cons of gambling on Ebscohost. These articles were very helpful.
